Summer with Grandmom and Poppy felt like spending time in a
land far away from
the way everybody else did things.
There were no televisions. . . yak-king.
No trucks and cars... honk-mg.
No jets ... zooming. I thought it was too quiet.
One day after dinner we three sat together in the big wooden swing on the back
of their porch. I could smell the peppermint gum in Poppy's pocket and lavender
soap Grandmom. liked to use.
It was there I discovered something I'll never forget. Grandmom and Poppy didn't
live in a completely silent house.
